After all it's bee a great winter in the Archipelago. This winter really showed off it´s amazing beauty great amounts of wonderful white snow, and in between most islands the Baltic Sea has been covered with a thick layer of ice. (view photos here) This year even as much to connect the Turku Archipelago with the Åland Archipelagao with ice roads well strong enough to carry cars and smaller trucks. This phenomenon even made some great dearing adventurers cover the distance by cycle.

Cycling is during the warmer season one of the most obvious ways of for exploring the islands of the archipelago. It really suits most people and the distances are resonable to fit anyone. Åland is pretty much of a paradise for cycling, with it's red granite, winding roads and great ferry connections between the Islands and the several routes connecting within the Scandinavian Islands area. You can bring your cycles with you on most of the ferries. Check with www.visitaland.com and book in advance.

The Stockholm Archipelago is easy reachable from the city centre of Stockholm at Nybrokajen and to really getting the most out of your adventure before heading out in the region of Scandinavian Islands, visit our Tourist Information and Souvernir Shop specialized in the Archipelago, at Strandvägen, Kajplats 18. How to get around

Just as there are several ways to get to the Scandinavian Islands, there are several ways to get around the region. You can choose to take an airplane, a ferry or go by bus, car or bike. It all depends on how you wish to travel and what you would like to see. A combination of transportation is a great idea and a necessary solution at times since we are talking about moving around in a beautiful archipelago.

Transports in the Turku Archipelago

Come by car, bus, bike, boat, or walking. Fine bridges, spacious ferries, and splendid smart vessels link the islands together. It is easy to get about in the Turku Archipelago.

By bike the journey goes like a dance. No line-ups, fresh air fills your lungs, and fitness improves. Distances are short and the scenery changes. You’ll enjoy the clean fresh air to the full.

If you arrive in your own or rental boat, tie up at the jetty in the guest harbour and attend to your boat and crew.

The yellow ferries, those moving, untiring transporters of the archipelago, offer a welcome break in driving along the Archipelago Trail, and short and free of charge sea trip. No need to book in advance.

The white vessels of the Turku Archipelago are for travelers with and without cars/bikes, a conveyance and for the inhabitants of the islands a vital aspect of life. The daily mail moves, service functions, and food stores are filled even out to the outermost Islands such as finnish Utö, Borstö, Jurmo, the list can me made long. Travelling with these is really an event into the bargain. Be sure to check the timetables for planned detour, or make sure to book your accommodation in advance out on the islands heading for. You will not regret if you decide to stay the night. Breathtaking and unforgettable views will come to you in most places. Ask for cayak rental and get a closeup of the wildlife on your own.

Tens of thousands of islands and skerries form a paradise for adventurous people. Here you can travel the same routes as the Vikings and the Hansaetic Merchants of a thousand years ago. Transports in the Åland Islands

To Åland by air
Your flight is via Helsinki, Turku or Stockholm. It takes just half an hour from Stockholm/Arlanda with Air Åland and less than an hour from Helsinki/Vanda or Turku in Finland. The journey by car from the airport to the central town of Mariehamn only takes five minutes.

By ferrie to Åland
The journey to Åland is half the experience. The Åland Islands are situated in the heart of Scandinavia, midway between Stockholm and Helsinki. Most people find the boat trip impressive. You can see Sweden's, Finland's and Åland's archipelagos on the way.

The shortest route from Sweden leaves from Grisslehamn or Kapellskär outside Norrtälje and takes two hours. Buses leave from Cityterminalen in Stockholm to Grisslehamn and Kapellskär. From Stockholm there are several route variations. From Finland you can either travel on the smaller archipelago ferries or on the ferries from Turku and Helsinki.
