Finland's claim to be one of Europe's last wildernesses is well-founded.
The country with long coastline sheltered with thousands of islands, Lakeland with combined waterways and enormous forests, is bigger than the UK but contains only a twelfth of its population, so getting away from the crowds is easy. Sometimes it's hard to imagine all this space and silence just couple of hours away from Central Europe's tensely populated busy areas.
But what gives Finnish scenery its own particular charm is the contrast between these different landscapes. Even the densest forests are interspersed with countless lakes, ponds and rivers; while even the largest lakes are dotted with tree-covered islands and promontories. This pattern continues right to the coast, where it gives rise to one of the most labyrinthine archipelagos in the world. It has been reckoned that a total of some 95,000 islands lie around Finland’s coasts.
The climate in Finland is marked by cold winters and warm summers. The highest daytime temperature in southern Finland during the summer occasionally rises to almost 30 degrees. Gentle summer from June to beginning of September give ideal conditions for adventure paddling.
Only few hours away!
Traveling to Finland is easy wherever from Europe or further you're traveling. There are frequent connections to Helsinki International Airport from all major European cities. If traveling by own car there are good ferry connections from Germany and Sweden to reach Helsinki or Turku.
